Dong Xiu teaches at Tongji University in Shanghai, China. She is also a Ph.D. candidate at the Shanghai International Studies University. She is a member of FIT (International Federation of Translators), TAC (Translators Association of China) and Penn TESOL-East, and has won the 2007 “Distinguished Young Teacher Award” at Tongji University. Her main research interest is the study of the translation style of Pearl S. Buck. She has conducted research at Hong Kong Baptist University and is currently a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania in America. She has published a number of academic papers, including “A Study of Chinese and Western Politeness” (2006) and “Qualities of Personnel in the Field of Translation for China’s Global Communication and Personnel Training” (2008), in addition to her translation works, which include The Art of Figure Drawing (2003). She has completed projects on “Politeness Comparison and Translation of Politeness Expressions between English and Chinese” (2005-2007) and “Exploration into Pun Translation between English and Chinese” (2007-2009). She presented papers at the 18th FIT World Congress in 2008 and at the Second National Seminar on the Translation of Public Signs.
