Daniel Gile is a conference interpreter and a professor emeritus at Université Paris Sorbonne Nouvelle. His initial background included mathematics, sociology, and Japanese on the academic side and scientific and technical translation on the professional side. He is the author/editor of numerous publications, the founder of the CIRIN network (www. cirinandgile.com), a member of the editorial/advisory board of many translation and interpreting journals and organizations, a former president of the European Society for Translation Studies, a former CERA professor (1993), and a regular member of the CETRA summer school teaching staff of KUL, Belgium.
